ATCO Contracting Group, Inc. provides a comprehensive range of core drilling services. Core techniques are used when precise, circular cuts are needed. Holes of almost any diameter can be drilled to create openings for plumbing, electrical, and HVAC installations. Core drilling is also commonly used to create holes for routing cables or placing anchoring bolts, installing load-carrying devices or dowel bars, or for concrete sample analysis.

A core drill bit consists of a steel tube with diamond segments brazed or laser welded on the drilling end. The bits are mounted on the rotating shafts of core drill machines powered by electric, hydraulic, or air sources. Core drills can be operated in any orientation — vertical or horizontal. Bit diameter can range from ½ inch to 60 inches (13–1524 mm); drilling depths are virtually unlimited with barrel extensions.

Core drilling complements ATCO’s environmental work when renovation and fit-out crews need verified openings without wholesale demolition — especially in occupied buildings where dust control, sequencing, and safety matter. Typical openings & uses

• Building trades — round penetrations for plumbing lines, conduit, ducts, sleeves, and fire-stopping-ready cores.
• Structural & anchoring — dowels, epoxy bolts, anchors, load devices, and post-installed connections where round holes fit the detail.
• Utilities & low-voltage — cable routing, poke-through coordination, slab and wall penetrations for risers and equipment feeds.
• QC & testing — concrete sampling for strength or petrographic follow-up.

• Diamond-segment tooling on tubular bits for clean cuts across a wide diameter range.
• Electric, hydraulic, and air rigs matched to access, slab thickness, proximity to occupants, and power availability.
• Orientations — vertical slabs, invert / soffits, horizontal decks, tight mechanical rooms.
• Depth — extended runs with barrel extensions when your detail calls for through-pours or thickened slabs.
• Coordination alongside our hazmat crews when ACM, LBP, or silica-sensitive conditions require joint planning.
